Ok so I know at least 3 makers who put their paint in molds and then attach to watercolor paper for their dot cards. Does anyone know what kind of molds to use? How long it takes for them to dry?
I purchased some 12mm and 15mm round molds that can be used for chocolate, resin etc. I filled them and then put them in from of a fan to facilitate drying but after 5 hours they weren’t hard enough. So I popped them in the freezer for 30 minutes and they still were not hard.
I am going to leave them over night in front of the fan and hope they pop out tomorrow but would appreciate any insight you may have on this.
Great question, I'm not sure. I know that a maker had to work on adapting their binder recipe to make it workable. I imagine you purchase the molds used for making teeny chocolates. If all else fails, you can make some nice chocolates from the molds 😋 but yeah, might need to contact the makers directly as I don't think they're on here or otherwise rejig the binder recipe. I would liken it to beam paints as well, they must have a really robust binder recipe! Please note (which I'm sure you have 👍🏻), if yours are very similar to other makers, give them a courtesy heads up or credit maybe just to prevent potential conflicts etc etc. 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
Thank you. My molds are just round dots. All the other ones have fancy shapes. I like the simplicity of the round dots but wanted something more uniform. They dry hard on my dot cards so maybe I just need a bit more time. I posted a query for help on my IG stories if I don’t get a response I will reach out to one of them directly.
Ah simplicity is a great idea! Good on you 👍 hopefully you get some feedback too.
Can you get the dot almost hard and then squish it down with one of those sealing stamps (made for wax) to leave a patterned look? I guess it might stick to the stamp. I know it's not a mold, but I've been curious.
Noreen thanks for the idea. The problem I am having is my workspace and storage space is limited so when I make the dot cards i have to move them from one spot to another and sometimes the dots run. Also sometimes I get too much on a dot and it spreads into another color. My OCD wants them to all be the same size. I know 3 other makers that use molds I am hoping one of them responds to my IG story otherwise I will get brave and ask one of them. But was hesitant as many are tight lipped about their process. I have some drying still and will see how they are later today. Hopefully it is just a timing issue and once they are hard they will pop out of the molds I bought then I would just need to order a couple more to streamline the process.
I guess I was just impatient. After 4 days they popped right out. So will have to plan ahead. I also ordered different molds that will allow me to make more dots at a time and they were less money so if they work I will definitely get more so I have a variety.
