Hey there! I've tried to make paint from a natural green pigment, but the colour payoff is very low. Googling wasn't very helpful, so does anyone have any tips for helping to get more colour payoff?
pigment by pigment. I used PG23 using a 1:1.5 pigment ratio. I’m still working on my binder ratio but it’s gum arabi, distilled water and a bit of glycerine. I mulled for 40 minutes. I also attached a comparison to the other recent paint I made which was a lot richer.
Sorry about the formatting, I’m on mobile 😅
I had a gut feeling it was a green earth. It's a Pigment that has weak color pay off. Unfortunately it looks great as a pigment which is deceiving until you work with it. The other one not so sure, are they from the same supplier?
Ah thats too bad. Yes it’s from the same supplier. It was from a starter kit from Kama Pigments. It’s a shame they put in a colour that’s difficult to work with! Thanks for the validation though, I’m glad it’s not just me that had a hard time. Do you have any suggestions that might make it better to work with in the future?
Hi Laura, could you please share a little more information about the pigment, binder, what you did? I.e. how long mulled, maybe pictures of swatches.
No problem! I know it’s for sure

Perhaps introducing a little more glycerin or maybe a little honey or ox gall?
Cool, I’ll try that next time and let you know if it helped. Thanks so much! 💖
Very best of luck and so great that you're recording everything down. 👍🏻
