Hello! I've started working with mattes recently and I noticed my mulling never goes smoothly... The muller often gets stuck on the slab and kind of hooked by something under the paint. At first I thought that's because the paint is drying underneath but it still happens when I spray water all over the slab. And it gets stuck in places where the paint never really gets the chance to dry (like in the middle)... I don't know if I explained this correctly..
Has this ever happened to any of you?
I'm using Stacey's recipe for the binder and it happens with all the mattes I tried, am I doing something wrong?
Thank's in advance and take care!
It can happen occassionally if the consistency is quite gluggy so experimenting with the binder to Pigment ratio will be worth investigating. I also wonder about the roughness of your slab and what kind of Muller you're using too? I ask this because I know alternatives are used so clarifying this info will be helpful.
I'm using a glass muller and a cutting board with smooth surface for the slab. I didnt roughen it maybe thats why? I thought it would get roughened with normal but maybe I should have?
Also the paint doesn't look gluggy to me, it gets quite runny as i spray water over it to try and avoid the muller getting stuck. Here it is pb36 and i used a 1:1 ratio
I would.recommend roughening the surface and take it easy on spraying water on there because this will affect your binder/pigment ratio.
I'm noticing now that the water has dried a little (while typing my question) that the problem is happening less frequently ! So i was probably exacerbating the problem when spraying water. I'll also roughen the surface for next time. Thank you so much for your time Stacey you are really the best 😊
