i find a lot of my micas settle and fall to the bottom (the binder doesn’t fully separate). I need to mix them a few times with a tooth pick over the day they dry to make sure they’re even. Any idea why this happens? I’ve read some people don’t mull their micas and only use a palette knife to combine them

I am sorry, I never experienced such problem with mica before... I can only try and make some guess... is your binder very runny? Maybe there’s too much water in it? Do you mull your mixture? Is your mica a really thin powder or maybe it has bigger particles that can precipitate? I don’t know if my questions will be of any help. I’m curious though so I hope some expert can help you out in a more efficient way!!
My mica is very fine and I’d say my binder isn’t runny nor is it very thick though, somewhere in the middle ground. I do mull my mica and I wonder if that could be the issue.
I have only had that problem when I used too much binder in relation to my mica. I have since made notes as to which micas take less binder.
i tried that with one of the paints and i think its helped! the other however, needed the same amount of binder id used already for all the pigment to be able to mix, i think i might try a thicker binder recipe for that one
Often Mica pigments do not require much binder.. If too runny, the excess water (which makes up the binder recipe) will likely dilute the mica and this is why it's separating. Good luck 👍🏻
@Stacey Dodd H Stacey! Do the paints can be used if it's separating? If not, is there a way to fix it?
