I'm sorry if something like this has already been posted - I have already looked but I couldn't see anything. Basically, my younger sister expressed she wanted a lovely mica palette for her birthday, and having several free hours a day as my four hour commute to work has turned to four steps from bed to desk, I thought I would try and make them for her - I thought it was easy!
I was wrong.
I tried to make a few last night, and used about a teaspoon of mica pigment, and 2 teaspoons of homemade binder made of all the usual suspects, including glycerine and honey. I've left it overnight in a dark area but within hours, it had started to separate. The pans and the leftover paint in the jars have almost separated into pigment and a liquid colourful layer.
I think I used wayyyyyy too much binder and it's separated. I've never done this before, I'm not looking to sell or anything, I just have no idea what I'm doing! Is there any set binder to pigment ratio when it comes it mica? All colours I tried last night have done the same thing, so is it more the amount of binder, or something wrong with the binder?
I have no idea what I'm doing!
